Setting a precedence for Investing in inclusion of Minorities

New Delhi [India], March 22: At the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva Dr. Arvind Kumar, President, India Water Foundation made a statement on 20th March 2025 during the General Debate 4 on the Minority Issues in India.

He highlighted that India Water Foundation since inception has been advocating for equitable access to resources, promoting inclusive development and advocating for social harmony which is crucial for sustainable development.

The government of India demonstrates strong commitment to minority empowerment, serving 19.3% of the population through comprehensive initiatives for six officially recognized minority groups: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs implements various programs to reduce disparities and enhance inclusion in national development. The Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, supports meritorious students from economically weaker minority sections, with funding increasing significantly from rupees 700 million in 2008-09 to ₹10000 million in 2023-24. He further articulated that Indian Constitution guarantees fundamental rights to all its citizens, including minorities, ensuring their protection from discrimination and promoting equal opportunity in all spheres of life. India’s commitment to diversity is exemplified in the vibrant cultures, religions, and languages that coexist across the country.

Celebration of Minorities Rights Day reaffirms the shared vision of Viksit Bharat where every citizen, regardless of their background, can live in peace and contribute to the nation’s collective prosperity.
